Golden Milk

  • 1.5 cups fresh coconut milk (or other non-dairy milk)
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 inch of grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • pinch of cinnamon

Place all ingredients in a pot on the stove and whisk until you reach your desired temperature. Alternatively, you can place everything in your vitamix and blend till warm.  This will add more froth, giving your drink more of a latte vibe. I like to sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top once I’ve poured it into a cup.   Enjoy!

You may wonder why black pepper is necessary, but it boosts the absorption of curcumin in your body by up to 2000%! Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical produced by some plants and is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric. So let’s not skip on the black pepper when making this delicious drink. This drink is also anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral, so the perfect bevy when you are feeling a little under the weather or down in general.

You can find turmeric powder in most grocery and health food stores.  I like using this brand, that they carry at Upaya Naturals.
